Tips for Visiting Australia
(for RVer's)

If you live in the UK, USA or Canada and you love RV'ing, then perhaps you should venture down to Australia and consider renting an RV. Consider these :
1.. The culture is very similar to your countries.
2.. We speak the same language albeit you all have an accent.
3.. It is cheap for you here because of the exchange rates
4.. Unique scenery and wildlife.
5.. and we are a friendly bunch.

so come on down!!!

How to get here ?
Airfares a getting cheaper all the time, so log on to the internet and find your fare. You may wish to arrive VIA New Zealand. The South Island is the most scenic. Here is what I would do!

Fly Los Angeles/London/Vancouver to Christchurch, rent a car, stay 2 nights in Christchurch in a motel, drive to Queenstown and spend 3 days in this area taking a side trip to Milford Sounds.

Here is a Web site that suggests an Itinerary for the whole of New Zealand.

My choice is Christchurch to Queenstown, spend a few days there, then drive down to Dunedin and spend 2 nights in Dunedin, then back to Christchurch to fly to Sydney.

New Zealanders (we call them KIWIS) talk like us, but we can pick them a mile off. We have a love hate relationship with the KIWIS, evidenced by the sports we play against them....RUGBY football and CRICKET.

Now to Australia.

Australia is a very big country, approximately the same size as the Lower 48th USA. It has 4 time Zones in Winter and 6 in summer. (some states do not have daylight saving)

See how big Australia is

What I am implying is, because of its vastness, it takes years of RV'ing to see the lot. So if you intend to spend 2 or 3 months here, you have to pick the "eyes" out of where you want to tour. Also you should contemplate flying to some remote areas. The north of Australia lies in the Tropics, whilst Tasmania is in the temperate areas.

When to come on downunder?

Don't come in November, December, January February or March. Simply put, its too hot in the Northern States and the outback, and in the Southern States its School holidays, so it can be hard getting into an RV Park. (We call them Caravan Parks). In the North the Monsoons start late January and many places are impassable. Come in the cooler months...e.g. April through to August. This is our winter, and our winters are NOT harsh at all. In Darwin the temperature may fall as low as 26 degrees celsius. (79 degrees F ). In Alice Springs the days are really beautifull, but it can reach 0 degrees C (32F) early morning.

What RV shall I hire?
RV's in Australia are generally a lot smaller than those in Canada or the US. The two main hire companies are listed below.
Maui or Btitz Motorhome Rentals.... get your motorhome here

Where shall we Go?

There are so many options, so I shall pick out what I think would be a great TOUR where you will see many different aspects of the Country and People and Wildlife. Depending on the time you have you can join this tour at any place, and/or leave before the end. One final note : Some of the best spectacular terrain e.g. the remote Kimberleys, Cape York, Simpson Desert CANNOT be accessed by a Motorhome as the roads are very rough and ONLY 4 wheel drive vehicles are suitable.
