Such a Change

After deciding not to go to Baja this year, we met up with our friends from Missouri, Bill and Sally Hill, and headed to the mainland part of Mexico for a quick trip to see if we liked it. We drove across the border at Nogales with no problems (except for lack of signs and little English spoken which caused us to take twice as long to get through the formalities), then took the toll road south through Sonora and then west to Kino Bay.

Kino Bay is a pretty area, very much a place for holiday makers, both Mexican and Americans from the United States. We stayed at an RV Park set up for Snowbirders wanting to get away from the winters in the north. Each site had a place for the RV as well as a covered verandah looking out over the sea. It was, without a doubt, the most upmarket RV Park we'd visited.

The food is inexpensive and tasty. Where else can you get a 3 lobster dinner for US$20. Needless to say we went back twice. The sunsets are the most spectacular we've yet seen (photoa below). Also interesting were the dive-bombing pelicans, just missing each other as they dived headfirst into the water after fish.

We also took a day trip from El Paso to Juarez in Mexico, just walking over the border, checking out the markets, having lunch and returning in the afternoon. Juarez is very much a tourist mecca, but nicely done. The people are friendly and helpful.

Below is an amusing set of photos. An elderly native woman came up to Roy and asked him for money. She had such an interesting face and a twinkle in her eye - who could resist. Roy took what he had out of his pocket and gave it to her. She then asked him to check his other pocket. She saw Roy winking at me and realised that she had an audience behind her so came onto us for money. However, she was sure that Roy was the soft touch so returned to him, finally getting all the change she had. The smile on her face when she realised she'd worn him down was priceless. Have a look at the photos in sequence.
